What A Writer Really Does

I came across this photo and had to share it. Sadly, there's no attribution, so I don't know who to give credit to. But enjoy! And just so we're clear. I don't play Solitaire. I much prefer Freecell.

  1. This is fabulous! And my computer game obsession keeps changing. I was addicted to Bejeweled for a while, now it's Spider Solitaire.

Honestly, I think solving puzzles helps tone the problem-solving part of my brain so needed to piece together the many elements of fiction.

  2. Laurel,

I agree with you. Sometimes a quick game of FreeCell is just what I need to figure out the latest plot/editing problem.

  3. I had to delete all the games on my computer so that I didn't run into this problem. The next step will be removing the wireless card.

  4. Ha, I just found the same picture and posted it to my FB wall. And I too uninstalled solitaire from my computer just to keep me from temptation. Now it's Twitter and Pinterest that are my procrastination tools.

  5. Oh, that's great! It's right up there with an old "Fox Trot" cartoon strip I've had on my bulletin board for many years. First square, the mother is sitting at her desk with pencil in hand, thinking, "The kids are back in school ... Roger's off at work ... Time to get some serious writing done." Second square, she's tapping the pencil on her bottom lip, looking upwards, and thinking, "Great writing. Brilliant writing. Pultizer-winning writing." Third square, her tongue's sticking out, and she's holding her pencil, poised, over the paper, while thinking, "Starting today, Andy Fox is going to write like she's never written before." Last square: She's holding the newspaper and thinking, "...Just as soon as she finishes the crossword puzzle."

  6. I'm a Hearts girl myself. Though some times, I really do do "what my mom thinks I do" mostly when my characters are giving me a headache.

  7. I don't play games at all, so when I saw the cards, the first thought that came to my mind was "It's a gamble!" Yep, all that hard work and it still feels like "the luck of the draw", even though I don't believe in luck :).

  10. There is so much truth in this. Haha. I don't really play Solitaire though. It's mostly Spider solitaire or like Laurel said, Bejeweled!

  12. Love it, Connie! *projects voice*

I can especially relate to the Einstein vs Solitaire comparison. I'll tell you what's got me all out of whack this week... LAST week's Origins blogfest! Loved it, really loved it, but it took me soooo long to try and read and comment on them all. Alas, I never quite made them all.

I'm really trying very hard to find balance between blogging (learning from my fellow writers) and actually writing on my novel. And, of course, there's this *tagging* business that I just could not turn down. I mean, who doesn't like answering questions all about themselves?!

So, um... keeping that in mind. *g*
I've tagged you over at my blog! Wanna play?
